BLOOMSBURY SQUARE

CLIENT: LB CAMDEN

DATE: JUNE 2012

LOCATION: Bloomsbury Square, London

Working with LB Camden and Designer Sav Kyriacou as part of the Healing Histories project, I jointly ran design workshops with a year 5 class in Camden to design signage for a physic garden and historical trail in honour of the historical figure Sir Hans Sloane.

We used games and practical activities in the workshops to work through the design process with the kids, each week building on the design. Considering their audience, aims, and context they chose appropriate typography, colour pallet, shape, layout and visual style. I then pulled their ideas together into two designs for them to choose from, before finalising and producing the signage.

The three layered signs use leaf silhouettes to achieve the 'spiky' appearance the kids chose. It was also their idea to use QR codes linking to resources online to reduce the amount of text on the signs so as to not put viewers off with too much copy.
